Cape Coast Castle
August 17th 2014 - Cape Coast, Ghana
Today was one of the most compelling and powerful days of my life. A day filled with remorse and sorrow. I took a visit to the Cape Coast Castle which is one of the many castles involved in the Trans-Atlantic Slave trade. Almost 25% of the entire slave trade was brought through this castle. The atrocities that have happened here, the enormity and pain suffered in these walls brought on a devastating feeling of grief. As a man who stands for human rights, who helps people to a dignified way of living and works for all people to become equal, I was moved in ways you couldn’t imagine. The presence and injustice of humanity’s heinous acts was felt and became a vivid reminder why I strive for human progress. May mankind never again repeat the enormity of our actions and forever love one another.
